I had a road trip down to Cobargo on the Far South Coast of NSW last week to attend the funeral of my eldest Aunty, Claire.

The trip was quite stirring, most of the roads have been recently upgraded and the rolling scenery was spectacular which set the tone for a quite respectful celebration of a lovely lady from a bygone era. Most poignant for me was the attachment Claire and her husband, Dads brother Bernie, had to the Sapphire Coast. Having been born there, schooled there and successfully run several businesses together as well as raise quite the family, the Wakelings of the Bega Valley have roots that run deep. More remarkable for me was visiting the Cemetery and taking in the gravestones. There were many relatives both distant and close and astonishingly at one stage I found myself looking at my Grandmother on Dads side Grave with my Mums Grandmother the next plot along…it seems that Mum and Dad were destined to be close! It was a good time for reflection, to celebrate lives lived in a region not too far away but worlds apart from the hustle and bustle of our lives…
