A thrilling finish to the 2019 Bathurst 1000

What a thriller! As usual, the Bathurst 1000 didn't fail to deliver a super exciting finish with the Shell Racing Teams Scott Mclaughlin, just pipping out a fast finishing duo of Holden Commodore drivers, Shane van Gisbergen and James Courtney.

There was drama aplenty over the day, with a delayed start, multiple safety cars, team mates taking each other out and lots of mechanical interventions that saw drivers scrambling over the journey.

The Great Race is certainly that, it's an accumulating war of attrition for drivers, pit crews and machines. Broken down into numbers it's an immense catalogue of high temperature braking, 100% throttle situations and G forces that takes its toll on fatiguing componentry both organic and inorganic. That's why the last few hours of this race is always intriguing! Strategy, pressure and fatigue cause drivers to make mistakes, cars break and as the sun starts to set we normally see the last 20 or so laps come alive. The weekend's race was won by the most dominant team of the season, a Holden fan might say they were robbed, but no one could say it wasn't exciting. Well done to all the participants, can't wait for next year.
