National Skills Week!

National Skills Week!

This week is National Skills week and it celebrates diversity and career pathways available through Vocational Education and Training…at Wakelings we employ over 70 Technicians who’s skill sets are amongst those being celebrated. Its important to highlight just how far being a light vehicle technician has come. As cars have continued to evolve and get more and more complex, so too has the level of skill required to fix and maintain them to keep them on the road. Recently the MTAA interviewed our very own Josh Ellacott to get his perspective on his career…

Josh (25) studied his light automotive technician qualification through TAFE NSW while completing his apprenticeship at Camden Valley Holden, where he is now workshop foreman. His interest in becoming a mechanic was because of his exposure to cars as a child, as his parents were involved in officiating motor racing, but he preferred to help crews with the race cars. He said there was still hands-on work involved in the job but increasing electronics created an increasing mental challenge in the job. “It’s more technical, more computers – it’s getting to the stage now where you have to have some sort of auto electrical skill to work out some of the problems,” he said. We’re always on the lookout for passionate people to join our team, so if you have a keen interest in starting your career within the automotive industry, contact us – This email address is being protected from spambots.
