Mr Paul Wakeling, the Chairman of Paul Wakeling Motor Group, founded Paul Wakeling Holden in Campbelltown in 1985, with a staff of just five. The business today encompasses all of the above, as well as a total staff of over 230 people.
A family owned business, Paul and Margaret Wakeling's son Scott is now the Managing Director of the group, having taken over the stewardship of the company from Paul in 2006.
Along with his business partner Paul Burgess they are moving the business forward and building on Paul Wakelings great work while following his footsteps in ensuring they continue to look after Macarthur.
Paul Wakeling has been involved in the motor industry virtually his entire working life starting his career as a trainee accountant in 1966. He held a number of senior appointments in various dealerships in Canberra, and it was his success as Managing Director of Beazley & Bruce Holden in the early eighties that led to him being asked by General Motors Holden to open a new car franchise for them in the rapidly expanding Macarthur region. Paul accepted the challenge with much enthusiasm and after trading in Campbelltown since 1985, Paul Wakeling Holden was officially opened by motor racing legend Peter Brock in 1986.
In 1987 Paul agreed to take on the then virtually unknown Hyundai brand. Today, Paul Wakeling Hyundai is one of the largest Hyundai dealerships in Sydney.
1993 saw the Mitsubishi franchise added to the stable, now this franchise is a large contributor to the ongoing success of the group.
Then along came the sister dealership in Camden. The opening of Paul Wakeling Holden, Camden reinforced the company's commitment to the Holden brand, and with growth in the Macarthur continuing, led to the opening of Volkswagen and Great Wall Motors at the Campbelltown location, and the need for larger premises for Camden Holden.
2010 saw Camden Holden being moved to brand new facilities at Smeaton Grange, now known as Camden Valley Motors, it wasn't only Holden on offer. Mitsubishi and Hyundai were now a part of this growing business.
Last but not least in 2012 Volkswagen expanded to contain its own Service Centre, one of only three stand alone service centres in NSW.
The Wakeling success story is not just confined to new car sales. On any given day, there are around 150 quality and prestige used cars on display, including dedicated vehicle yards at Campbelltown and at Camden Valley Motors located in Smeaton Grange.
But Wakeling Automotive isn't just about cars, it also comprises of a highly professional finance and insurance department, after-market, fleet , IT and administration The service and parts centres consist of over 40 vehicle work stations and operate 3 courtesy buses over the 2 sites so getting to the local shops, station or home whilst we look after your car is easier than ever.
