Over the years Wakeling Automotive has sponsored numerous local projects.
Our favourites today include being the major local sponsor of Wests Tigers and Western Suburbs Magpies, donating a pre-loved car each year to St Thomas More Primary School for their raffle, assisting St Gregory’s College and various charity golf days such as Mater Dei Camden.
Launched in 2000, the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation is Macarthur’s premier children’s charity.
Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation is a local children’s health charity established to raise funds to purchase paediatric medical equipment to enhance the level of health care offered to local children being treated at Campbelltown and Camden hospitals. These funds also support numerous children’s community health programs and aid in research to establish preventative programs for health issues specific to the Macarthur.
Equipment is purchased for the five paediatric units in Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals (Children’s Ward, Paediatric Ambulatory Care, Paediatric Emergency, Special Care Nursery and Child and Adolescent Mental Health plus Maternity, Delivery and Post Natal Units) as well as supporting many children’s community health programs.
In many instances equipment purchased by Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation eliminates the need for parents to transport their sick child outside of the region to receive specialist health care.
To do this the Foundation aims to raise, stimulate and advocate for funding of children and adolescent health services and research delivered within the boundaries of the Macarthur region and engaging the Macarthur community (including government, corporations, organizations, residents and businesses) in supporting these priorities.
Paul Wakeling is a Director and Deputy Chairman for Kids of Macarthur Foundation. Wakeling Automotive staff members are inaugural contributors to the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation "Giving Program" where each staff member has the opportunity donate to the foundation.
This is another example of Paul and Scott Wakeling's philanthropic commitment to the Macarthur community.
Many years ago Paul Wakeling decided that he needed to thank the people of Macarthur for supporting him and his growing company. There were many suggestions considered with only one being selected as it touched most of the community at one time or another.
This is where the “Wheels for Life” program was born. This program stayed a major focus for Scott Wakeling as he took over the business and continued this great initiative.
Since 1997 Wakelings Wheels for Life has raised over $1,250,000 providing vital equipment for the benefit of both Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals. This program has made possible the acquistion of such items as a ventilation machine, digital weigh chair, mobile X-ray machine, digital surgical cameras and state of the art operating theatre lights.
The program is based on the simple principle of Wakeling's allocating $25 each time they sell a new or used car. These funds are then used to purchase essential equipment for the hospitals. According to Paul "we've always based our business on supporting the community that supports us, and I can't think of a better way of doing just that than through our local hospitals".
Over the years equipment has ranged from items such as a Doppler Ultrasound Machine, Operating Theatre Lights, Mobile x-ray Machine, Blood Glucose Monitors, Mobile Trauma Beds, Pulse Oximeter, Infant overhead Resuscitation unit, Oxygen Analyser, Bladder Scanner, Vital Sign Monitor, Five Hi-Lo Beds, Two Vital Signs Monitors, Two Cot side protectors, Flo-Guard Pump, Spa Bath for birthing babies and Colonoscope plus various other items.
The most recent contributions to the hospital included an EMG/Nerve Conduction Machine which was not accessible in The Macarthur region until now, and an Erbe Endoscopy Machine to assist in the setting up of a second room to help waiting times.
This commitment to the local community through supporting the needs of the hospitals continues today.
Mater Dei school, Camden was established as a special needs school in 1957. Mater Dei is an organisation that provides early intervention therapy services, education and residential programs for babies, children and young people with an intellectual disability or developmental delay.
The underpinning philosophy for all at Mater Dei is "Inclusion for all". Much of the School's work is focused on providing opportunities and experiences that will help students develop the skills and confidence to be fully included as members of their community.
Through the dedication of the teaching staff at Mater Dei many young people have grown to be confident young adults. As well as educational the school is residential and is situated in one of Camdens many stunning locations. We here at Wakeling Automotive have been touched by the dedication shown by the staff at Mater Dei to ensure the children receive the most precious care available.
Wakeling Automotive are proud to be associated with Mater Dei, and are a major sponsor of the Mater Dei Annual Golf Day. We give away a car to the first person who hits a "hole in one" on a particular hole each year. It's a great day and the generosity shown by local businesses from the Macarthur region is overwhelming. They support the day by attending and joining in the fun along with students from the school who make the day even more special. This is another way Wakeling Automotive is "looking after Macarthur".
Wakeling Automotive has had an association with the Wests Tigers since their days as Western Suburbs NRL Club.
Since 1987, Paul Wakeling Motor Group became corporate sponsors of Western Suburbs NRL team and Wests Tigers NRL teams, with Paul Wakeling serving as a Director of Western Suburbs Football Club for six years from 1995 to 2001.
Wakeling Automotive now provide vehicles for a selection of Wests Tigers including Woodsy, Chris Lawrence, John Skandalis and Jason Taylor. The Tiger Drivers can be seen on the roads of Macarthur in a Wakeling's vehicle whenever the team are playing at Campbelltown Stadium.
